Persephatta: bringer of life, light, and wisdom;

another name for Persephone, greek goddess of the springtime and queen of the underworld

You deserve joy.

End of story.

My clients struggle like you and I do because life can just REALLY suck sometimes. Our entire world view, the way we see ourselves and respond to others can profoundly change after a traumatic event. As we shield ourselves from more pain, trauma can cause the parts of ourselves that are open to new experiences, ideas, our memories, and our even our bodies to close off. Therapy works to help reconnect us to those distant parts of ourselves, reinstating access to the full range of our potential.

I get that “finding joy” can sound super cheesy — and after being metaphorically sucker punched by life it can also feel like a lot, or maybe even impossible. So, let’s find it together in a way that works for you. “Cookie cutter” therapy doesn’t help anyone (no shade against cookies).

How I Work

Therapy is a relationship. I hope we’ll laugh, we’ll probably cry, I’ll hear you out, and you’ll hear my dramatic cat meowing in the background. Whatever storm cloud of swirly feelings you have (or don’t!) - I’m here for it. Need to talk about carbs, your boss’s passive aggressive comments, cystic acne, betrayal, how to get through Thanksgiving with “that” side of the family, childhood trauma, online dating, or just good ‘ole fashioned existential dread after a devastating global pandemic? Great! This is a judgment and shame-free zone. My approach to therapy is trauma informed, humanistic, and based in creative arts therapy practices.

Creative arts therapy is a modality of psychotherapy, so our sessions will likely look like “regular” talk therapy sessions, but if it is useful to you, I can also bring in interventions designed to help you express yourself, change up perspectives, free up creativity, or explore sensitive or even scary subjects without becoming emotionally overwhelmed.

For kids & teens specifically, talking about feelings and difficult situations can be particularly challenging. Providing opportunities to be expressive can help them open up while feeling safe and also building their sense of autonomy and self esteem.

You absolutely do not have to be a “creative” person or an “artist” to benefit from creative arts therapy.

Our sessions will be structured in a way that works best for you.
